Rarawa Beach, written by Tommy Doyle
For the last few weeks we have been going on trips to Rarawa Beach,to collect data on the species we find there. At the beach we are put into three groups, group one, group two and group three. Group one would go snorkelling with Whaea Heather, group two would be with Whaea Tracey and group three with Whaea Yani. When you are with Whaea Tracey you walk along the beach looking for species like sand hoppers. When you’re with Whaea Yani you walk along the rock pools with the meter square until you find a spot to lay it down, then see what species you can see inside it. When you’re with Whaea Heather you are snorkeling in the rock pools looking for species. My favourite thing to do at Rarawa Beach is to go swimming in the lagoon. I like how it sounds awesome when the waves crash down.
